ok, so its not enforced yet, but its now in the serious discussions after all the signing...

So, what does this mean for artists on Deviant art?  Can I still draw fanart of my favorite videogames or is it the end of that?

*****************************

...There is a global version of SOPA called Anti-Counterfeit-Trade-Agreement that is trying to be passed:

[link]

This is a treaty signed by different countries is just an agreement for them to carry out what is written in the treaty.  ACTA itself isn't very special or harmful.  What we as the consumer/individual have to keep in mind is HOW the government, and maybe each individual state, abides by the treaty.  What can end up happening is in order to abide by the treaty they decide to slip in bills such as SOPA and PIPA back in but under a different name claiming to be bills to support the ACTA treaty.

The general thing that could potentially happen is an individuals actions on the internet can/will be logged by their isp provider and then this information can be given.  Copyright people will then use the data that is meant for ACTA to be used instead to find out if people are breaching copyright infringement.  This would just cause massive black outs of websites like what SOPA and PIPA bills were trying to do.  It's how the government and individual states go about implementing bills/laws to adhere to ACTA regulations that can be abused.

As an individual, I'm not sure how much I can do about it, but there are now petitions circulating online calling for the rejection of ACTA.  What really makes me angry though is the fact that this bill harms nearly everybody especially independent artists/musicians, but benefits absolutely no one except for big media companies such as the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industries Association of America (RIAA), who happened to be the main groups pushing for SOPA.  And the people proposing ACTA are not democratically elected government officials, but a very secluded group of corporate interest people... coincidence?

TL: DR
If ACTA passes, it would be the perfect excuse for bought out politicians to reintroduce SOPA/PIPA.

Yeah, I feel the same, my friend :iconsweecrue: explained to me, ACTA is not a treat for now, but we still have to wait the reaction of people but I think there's no need to fight it unless it's completely necessary
